http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/e/d/0/event_21491984.jpegJoin us for a backcountry ski trip to the slopes above Forest Lakes in our gorgeous Indian Peaks. We will start from the Moffat Tunnel trailhead (near Rollinsville) and ski up to near Forest lake. From there we will climb up a low-angle ridge to near the Continental Divide. We will then take our skins off and ski glorious deep powder down a wide open low-angle run to Forest lake. At the other end of the lake is an awesome 20-30 ft cliff/jump with a deep powder landing! You can jump off the cliff with or without your skis, or just ski around it and watch the fun show! We will then ski down a long gladed run that is always loaded with deep luscious powder, ski a bit of the trail and then shred another long deep powder tree run, and then fly back down the trail to our cars. There are spectacular views of the huge walls of the Continental Divide that surround Forest lakes. This ski trip is about 3.0 miles uphill with 2,000 ft of gain.
If you are skiing, you will want skins to get up the hill. Snowshoers are welcome to join the fun and laugh at the skiers faceplanting. Doggies are welcome too.
All the slopes we will ski are less than 25 degrees so avalanche risk is minimal. If you have an avalanche beacon then bring it, the safer the better. However, since we are skiing low angle slopes, beacons are not required.
We will meet on Sunday, February 26th at 9:00 AM at the Alfalfa's market on Broadway and Arapahoe in Boulder. You can park all day in the City of Boulder lot across the street (north) from Alfalfa's. You can call me at 720-203-6500 if you have any questions.
This meetup is cross-posted with the Meetup group "Spectacular Adventures":
