http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/8/9/c/event_21463164.jpegJoin us for a fun weekend of building and sleeping in a variety of snow houses and some great backcountry skiing/snowshoeing. Saturday morning, March 17th we will ski to a place in the Indian Peaks that has lots of big snowdrifts. There we will build our majestic snow city. We will split into different groups and build a variety of snow structures including igloos, snow caves, quinzees, and A-frames. You can build and sleep in whatever snow house that you desire. One of my best memories is waking up inside an igloo one morning to see the most beautiful blue light filtering through the walls of the igloo. An amazing sight! Snow structures are incredibly warm and quiet, and are a unique experience to sleep in a house made of water. On sunday, we will go backcountry skiing/snowshoeing on the slopes near our snow city, and then ski out in the afternoon. There are a million videos on the internet on how to make igloos, snow caves, quinzees, and A-frames, but here is one retro Canadian film on igloo building that is just fantastic:

Please coordinate with the other people on this trip to form a group for your snow house. Make sure you have all the right tools to build your house. Remember to bring enough fuel to melt snow for water. Also, consider bringing a change of clothes to wear in your snow house. It will be nice to take off your sweaty clothes and put on some dry clothes.

We will meet on Saturday, March 19th at 7:00 AM at the Alfalfa's market on Broadway and Arapahoe in Boulder. You can park all day in the City of Boulder lot across the street (north) from Alfalfa's. You can call me at 720-203-6500 if you have any questions.

This meetup is cross-posted with the Meetup group "Spectacular Adventures":

It's probably best to post any comments there.

Lets go sleep in an igloo!
