Happy New Year & notes on events

Hello 20-somethings and Happy New Year!

I’m sorry I’ve been a bit MIA. November through December is my company’s busiest season so I was pulling so 60 hour weeks there and didn’t have time to organize events. Please give me another week or so and then I’ll get back to scheduling some fun events.

A few notes:

If you have an idea for an event send it my way or use the “Suggest” feature of the site.

Better yet, if you would like to host an event please let me know. Hosting is a very easy process, essentially you help organize the event, and help designate a meeting spot and look for members. It is hard for me to be at and host every event, so I appreciate it when people volunteer. Remember this is a group of the people! All organizers started as just members but then took a more active role in the group. If you need ideas on what events to host, take a look at the message board for the "Host an Event" idea list.

A note on winter sports: I'm afraid I have a long-term ankle injury and so can no longer ski or snowboard. As such I will be unable to host those types of activities. However last year we did have numerous members volunteer to host these events, so hopefully we'll have some people who will do so again this year.

I just got news that Geeks who Drink on Wednesday nights at Georges has been permanently cancelled. This is sad as it was a wonderful event, however I’ll be looking for other Trivia nights. We might also switch over to a weekly "happy hour" meetup.

Meetup is free for members, but Meetup charges the organizers (me) to host the meetup group a monthly fee (25 if we pay it monthly or 12 if I do it in blocks of 6 months). Our Meetup group fee for the next 6 months will be coming up again in February and will be 72 dollars. I will front the cash but please be sure to bring a few spare dollars at events you attend.  All donations go strait to the meetup fee, I don't make a cent. So far in the past we have been able to cover 90% of the meetup fee from donations while I cover the remainder.
