Possible Fun + Funny Climate Activism. Interested?

A former member
Hi All,

The folks at seem to be getting increasingly creative about their climate activism, and their current initiative strikes me as both a good idea and a good time.

It's part of a campaign to end oil subsidies, and it entails dressing up like referees, en masse, with whistles, and blowing those whistles (or throwing penalty flags) within earshot of members of congress who take oil industry payouts. (I imagine the whistles can be blown metaphorically or actually depending on the participants' proclivity for spectacle).

Anyway, will send ref jerseys, whistles, and penalty flags, free, to any group that can muster at least 5 people to take part in their home state. Read more here.

350 is a great organization that has demonstrated it's effectiveness in organizing activism: it played a central role in the defeat of the Keystone XL pipeline recently, and it did so on the back of similarly creative acts.

I'm writing, then, to see if any of you are interesting in doing taking part in one of these 'referee' events. If you think you'd like to do this, let me know, or better yet write this mailing list and let everyone know. If there's a strong response, I'll organize it.

P.S. in the near future we'd like to organize periodic low-key events where we can all meet each other, have a good time, and maybe trade ideas about how to more effectively respond to climate change.

There are 27 of us on this list, and it would be great to hang out and get to know one another better. My experience is that good things tend to develop spontaneously when like-minded people get together to have a good time.

What kind of events would you be excited to come out for? Ideas?

Write this mailing list and let us know your thoughts and I'll love you forever (or maybe just for a limited time).
