Details

A third trip out of town! The Line is London's first dedicated modern and contemporary art walk, featuring a total of 14 outdoor works over a three-mile route. These works include sculptures by Martin Creed, Damien Hirst, Thomas J Price, Antony Gormley and Eduardo Paolozzi. The Line runs from Greenwich to Stratford, between The Greenwich Peninsula (The O2) and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, following the outline route of the Greenwich Meridian. The crossing of the Thames will be by the Emirates Air Line cable car (tickets £4.50 at time of posting, buyable on the day). The Line broadly follows the line of the Greenwich Meridian, much of it along the waterways and takes around 3 hours to complete. It will include some public transport. ‘You discover who you are when you journey. So travel the Greenwich Meridian with us and along the path of those before you. We've inscribed the land with totems. Works of art that act as a marker to where we are. See the layers of East London. The very old song of its waters. The towering of its ambition. The democracy of a single sky. People have been journeying for millennia. Feet in ancient times finding paths through a changing landscape to tell or untell a story. Works of art singing us along. Pack your thoughtfulness. Walk The Line.’

Date: Sunday 7th February
Please note, this is a provisional date, dependent on the trains and if there are bus replacements and/or bad weather impeding travel to/from Brighton/London. I will check the works schedule nearer the time, and if necessary then (or in the case of what Southern determine to be extreme bad weather, the day before) will propose another date.

Time: 12 pm, provisionally an approx. 3-4 hours ramble, including and dependent on tube/air cable travel
Start: Stratford High Street tube (DLR), 12 pm. Those coming from Brighton will need to be on a train no later than the 10.10 (at time of posting, train times will be updated to the winter timetable in due course)

End: North Greenwich (Jubilee) Terrain: No steep inclines and mostly paved underfoot. If travel by cable car, of course be wary of its height if this is an issue for you.
