The Night

The subject for the night is...

The Venue

The venue is confirmed as "The Edge" for the next six months. If you need a Google Map you can just click on this link to see where "The Edge" is.

The Edge has an in-house cafe that serves strong coffee and other beverages, however, meals and stronger drinks will have to wait until after the meeting.

As main meals are not available at the venue, we are aiming to start the main presentations earlier so as to leave time afterwards for everyone to get a bit and have a chat at a nearby cafe/pub.

The Schedule
The schedule for the meetup will hopefully follow this plan:-
6.00pm - Arrive and chat with other members - order any drinks/food
6.30pm - This months presentation/discussion
7.30pm - Official Finish
7.45pm - Head to the Pub

As always, everyone is welcome to stick around afterwards to talk if you wish. There are lots of venues nearby, and "The Fox Hotel" is just around the corner and a popular post-meetup venue for other meetup groups.

Hope to see you all there!

Cheers

Craig

It was great to have a nice chat with everyone before the Christmas break!

Although landing there at the end of the formal part, drinks and talk at the fox was most entertaining. Will just have to check on any rock concerts at Suncorp in future and allow an extra couple of hours for travel :)

    Hi Everyone,
the meeting details for this month haven't been updated as Craig has been ill for most of the month (apart from one or two days).

At this point I'm expecting Craig back at work next week assuming his test results today are all OK.

As I understand it the November meeting was going to be an "End of Year" meet up - more of a social event with a brief period at the start to cover off news in the Joomla! world. Things like the Sydney Joomla! Day, Joomla! 3.0 releases and the 2.5.8 updates and of course the upcoming Melbourne Joomla! Day in January.

I'll get Craig's login details and update the meeting details later today.

    Regards

    Yulonda

does anyone know an extention that allows people to upload stories with photos with a drag and drop or some thing that is equally as easy. There must be plenty out there as nearly every second commercial site seems to have an easy way of uploading ads etc. I just cant find one in the joomla extentions. EG that gumtree website is an example that makes it easy for guests to upload to the site with in minutes including photos facebook obviously too. the website im working on is frontend user contribution dependant and surveys show no one is contributing because its too hard using the default joomla system.
    Any suggestions muchly appreciated.

      Hi Cat,

I do a lot of development with a component called Zoo from the guys at YOOtheme.

To give you a quick outline, you create a layout (this is the hardest part as it involves coding and required knowledge of PHP and CSS), and then assign elements to positions in that layout. Users then have a front-end form they fill out and enter all the information. For example, the Name, Subtitle, Logo, Images, Text Boxes, Address, Contact Number, etc....

These elements are then auto-formated according to the template I've built. The end result is a simple form for the end user to upload data too, and a consistent, professional and tidy view of that information to the viewing public. If you would like to see a demo or some that I have built hit me up on [masked].

      Cheers,

      Ben
