What we’re about
Groups Overview
Brissy Tribute Bands (BTB) meetup social group recently received recognition from Meetup HQ as one most active Meetup groups in the world, and thanked us for this amazing accomplishment.
This group has become very popular because there are no memberships and most of the events are totally free and everyone likes live music and dancing. These outings sometimes include International and Nationally Bands and Show that would cost thirty dollars upwards at other venues. Other reason for the group’s popularity is that we host meetups for all tastes of music at a variety of venues. Because of this you make many new friends and see new faces. This group was originally organised in meeting for live music and dancing but it has now also become a dinning outing. The monthly meet and greet is a nice ice breaker where you can chat and listen to music in a relaxing environment. We are very passionate about this group right from sourcing, hosting and attending the functions.
What this Group is all About
We originally decided to start this group because we love listening and dancing to tribute bands. This group is for singles, couples young and young at heart who enjoy the music of 50’s through to modern day. Like us you may have not had the opportunity to see the original, because they have disbanded or sadly deceased. The band also may not have toured Australia yet or the tickets were out of your price range, seeing the tributes are the next best thing. If you want to experience the atmosphere, stage performance and sounds of these music legends, Brissy Tribute Bands is for you.
I Would like to Introduce Ourselves
My name is Allan and my wife is Sue, we have been dancing together for eleven years, and we really love old time rock and roll dancing, we also enjoy fast rockabilly. I am a bit quite when we first meet but when there is a common interest like live music and dancing you can’t shut me up. We enjoy house parties, especially when dancing is involved we will become the life of the party. When we are with a group of people on a dance floor we enjoy circle free style dancing where everyone struts their stuff. To put it simply we totally enjoy dancing whether it be rock and roll, freestyle, head banging or just shuffling on the floor, we are not satisfied until we are totally exhausted.
How this Group Functions
Sue and I will find where free Tribute Bands or Shows are playing within the Brisbane and outer shires, which are usually at Sports Clubs and RSL’s. Since they are free shows, we will not be able to pre book seats or tables. When we cant organize a Tribute Band or Show we will fill the rest of our weekend calendar by supporting local duos, blues, jazz and rock and roll bands. We will arrive early to all functions and try to save a seat for you. Look for the black and white streamers and balloons on the tables. It would be greatly appreciated if you drop a gold coin donation into the black bottles for hosting this event; this goes towards the meetup running costs.
Rules and guidelines can permanently be found under the pages tab. Brissy Tribute Bands may amend or add to these rules and guidelines at any time

Cat Stevens Tribute
Remember the days of Cat Stevens? The name brings back a thousand memories - dark eyes, a winning voice and songs the whole world sang along to; Moonshadow, Wild World, Peace Train, Where Do the Children Play, Father & Son, Morning Has Broken, they have become bookmarks in our lives, deeply personal, as if they were written especially for us.
Re-live the voice of a generation, in a celebration of one of the most inspiring and prolific singer songwriters of our time, sung with remarkable authenticity by one of Australia’s most exciting artists, Darren Coggan.
Star of the critically acclaimed production, Peace Train The Cat Stevens Story, Darren Coggan, has spent the past ten years inspiring audiences with this critically acclaimed portrait, in the most prestigious theatres across Australia, including The Sydney Opera House Concert Hall and most recently playing to standing ovations in concert halls throughout the United Kingdom.“I had the privilege of being invited to London to meet with the great Cat Stevens in 2007. I heard first hand some of the many anecdotes and stories that I have enjoyed sharing with our audiences in ‘Peace Train’. In this new production, I want our audiences to experience what it might have been like to hear Cat Stevens at the height of his career, a cosmic concert experience of Cat Stevens’ biggest hits.” – Darren Coggan.
Get on board the Peace Train and ‘Remember The Days of Cat Stevens’ as Darren Coggan traces the path of a man who never stopped wondering about how to make the world a better place.
“Coggan sounds amazingly like Stevens.”- The Daily Telegraph
“Coggan has found a quality of voice which is so close to the original that you would think it is Cat Stevens himself.” - Canberra Times
