The Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus (BGC) is an award-winning Western New York based non-profit organization of over 80 singers. Chartered in 1964, we are celebrating our 60 year anniversary in 2024!
How are we unique as a singing group?
Oh, in so many ways! First of all, at BGC we sing acapella, which means we are the music, no instruments required. Not only that, but we sing in the barbershop style. You may be wondering, what exactly does it mean to sing 4 part barbershop harmony? The melody is sung by the lead, with the tenor harmonizing above the melody. The bass sings the lowest harmony part, and the baritone completes the chord. When those chords come together and really ring, the sound is really special and inspires each of us at every rehearsal.
BGC members are so committed to improving that unit sound as well as our individual voices, that we also compete as a chorus at regional, and if all goes well, international competitions. Competing on stage with your friends after working really hard on that music together is an amazing experience. We are so grateful that BGC has been able to make its way to international competition 7 times in a row, finishing in the top 15 each time!
What else do you need to know?
In addition to performing in competitions, BGC typically puts on a show each year and may perform in the community as a full chorus or in small groups. We frequently have internationally renowned coaches come to work with us who complement the expertise of our wonderful Master Director, Diane Porsch.

Come for a visit! Guests and prospective members are always welcome. At BGC we have singers who have a lot of experience as well as singers who got their start in their own shower!! If you love to sing, you owe it to yourself to see if we might be the right group for you. Our doors are open, so take a chance and come experience our passion for singing, our focus on musical excellence and the fellowship and friendship that serves as the foundation for all that we do.
