Introduction to NativeScript

Creating cross-platform web and mobile applications has always been a sort of mirage for JavaScript developers. There are a lot of solutions out there for hybrid apps, but what if we want to leverage native platforms and their APIs directly within our application? How do we manage some of the performance constraints gracefully using the languages and syntax we all know (and love)?

This month at BuffaloJS we're going to start talking about solutions to this problem, and a very promising development platform from Telerik called NativeScript (https://www.nativescript.org/). We'll be looking at some of the materials in the Summer of NativeScript (https://www.nativescript.org/summerofnativescript) program, and comparing with other solutions such as React Native. We'll also write a sample app and test it out on a couple of targets to see how things work.

We're excited to see what the NativeScript roadmap has to bring to JavaScript developers, and to explore this platform with fellow JavaScripters!
