Digital technologies are increasingly disrupting traditional models of public participation in government planning processes. At the same time, a new generation of hackers is using open data to make government more transparent and responsive to the needs of its citizens. What does this like look like in Burlington and Vermont?

Join us for a panel discussion with some people on the front lines of experimenting with new ways of civic engagement through technology. Bring your laptop if you want to participate in a hands-on exercise as part of this event!

Panelists:

Bill Morris, Cartographer, will talk about his effort to crowdsource Burlington's neighborhoods in advance of the city's redistricting process ( http://btvhoods.geosprocket.org/ )

Rebecca Roose, Senior Product Marketing Manager at MyWebGrocer, will talk about the upcoming HackVT ( http://hackvt.com/ ), billed as "A 24-hour hackathon where friends and complete strangers will work to build a killer app for the state of Vermont."

Sandrine Thibault, Comprehensive Planner at the City of Burlington, will talk about PlanBTV ( http://www.burlingtonvt.gov/PlanBTV/ ), the initiative she is spearheading to get citizens involved in the planning process for downtown Burlington and the waterfront.

*Please note that this NetSquared panel will take place at OfficeSquared's new location on 77 College St (entrance is on S. Champlain Street).
