Bushwick Breakfast Club Message Board › NO TO DOMINO -- Urgent Deadline -- Today at 5pm
Our neighborhood's in peril, so I'm passing this along. Sorry for the short notice, but it just occurred to me at this morning's meetup that NBBC should be made aware of what's happening with the New Domino project, as well. In short, the owner/developers are trying to force upon our neighborhood a monstrous development that would add 6,000 new residents to a 5-block stretch between Grand and S5th -- and 2500 new rush hour riders to the already over crowded L and J,M,Z lines!
We're talking a ridiculously tall (several 30- and 40-story towers in the mix) and dense wall of buildings that has more square footage than the Empire State Building -- a real neighborhood wrecker (see rendering below)! They claim to need this absurd height and density to offset the cost of 660 units of affordable housing, but they refuse to show their numbers to prove it.
First the City Council Zoning Subcommittee, and then the full Land Use Committee will be voting Monday on the fate of this project. TODAY 5PM -- TWO HOURS FROM NOW -- IS THE LAST OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PUBLIC TO VOICE OPPOSITION BY EMAILING THE VOTING COUNCIL MEMBERS BELOW. Please take a sec to send off a short email in opposition to the two groups below (just copy/paste email addresses). There's a copy/paste note below, as well, if you're not sure what to say. What you say is less important than just weighing as "opposed", as they literally count the yay/nay emails as part of the decision-making process. Please do it now -- and forward to friends who don't want this monstrosity in our midst. Thanks!

Just got word that the Friday subcommittee vote was pushed to Mon., so that buys us 24 more hours to forward and email with fervor! NEW DEADLINE FOR EMAILING COUNCIL MEMBERS BELOW -- FRIDAY 6/25 (TOMORROW) 5 PM! Thanks!
---------- Forwarded message ----------
Thanks to all of you who've already forwarded this to others and sent your own email to the Council members below. For those who haven't, a quick reminder that TODAY 5PM IS THE DEADLINE. Remember, anybody with a separate email can send -- even a kid -- and everybody within a household should send separately to pump up the volume. What you say matters less than just weighing in as "opposed." When the vote comes in, I'll send along the outcome. Thanks so much!
P.S. For those who were confused by a "We Won!" note, followed by a request to barrage voting Council members with emails -- the victory at Monday's hearing was the fact that we had a huge turn-out that eclipsed the pro-Dominos by a "score" of 104 to 98 -- that shows City Council definitely that there's strong opposition to the project. What we're doing now is keeping our opposition top of mind as the Subcommittee on Zoning, then the full Land Use Committee prepare to vote on the project. Hope that clarifies -- sorry for any confusion!
---------- Forwarded message ----------
We have one last opportunity to drive home our opposition to the Domino project. If you were unable to attend the hearing, or had to leave before speaking – or, even if you did speak -- we have a small 31-hour window to flood the City Council members who will be voting with NO TO DOMINO emails.
To keep our opposition top of mind, please take a sec to send an email to the two groups below by this Thursday 6/24 (TOMORROW) 5 pm, at the latest -- but the earlier the better. The subcommittee that recommends to the larger committee may be voting as early as Friday 6/25, and the full vote takes place Monday 6/28. Thanks!
P.S. Since they literally count these communiqués, please have each individual with an email within your household send a separate email (even kids – there’s no age limit).
P.P.S. Please forward to others in the neighborhood who don't want this monstrosity in our midst -- Thanks!

If you don’t know what to write, just copy/paste this:
Subject: No to Domino
I was unable to attend the City Council hearing on Monday to voice my opposition to the New Domino project. There has got to be a better way to deliver affordable housing without the extreme height and density. (The New Domino has more square footage than the Empire State Building!) If you wouldn’t be comfortable with this in your neighborhood, please don’t put it in ours.
And, adding 2500 new rush hour riders to the already beyond capacity J, M, Z and L lines is simply inhumane. Don’t destroy our neighborhood – just VOTE NO! Thanks!
