There are a couple events today, Monday. At 1pm there is “Steve’s Job Search Strategy Group” at Connect, for those in, post, or thinking about ProMatch. Learn more here:
Tonight there is an AIAA event at the fabled Hacker Dojo, 6:30pm-8:00pm. Topic is “KickSat — Kickstarting the Personal Space Age”, with speaker Zac Manchester. Free event but they’d like you to RSVP. Bring few bucks to chip in for brewskis if you like.
Tuesday morning at 8:30 at the Sunnyvale Council Chambers is Bio2Device. Topic is “An innovative way to deliver medical equipment and supplies to health systems in resource-poor regions of the world”, with speaker Chuck Haupt - Executive Director - MedShare, Western Region.
Later at 1pm at the nearby Connect center is Toastmatchers at 1pm.
Wednesday at lunchtime there is once again a IEEE-VTS meeting, this time at the Cadence Corporation Bldg. 10 Auditorium 2655 Seely Ave. San Jose, CA 95134.
Topic is “A California Road Map for the Commercial Rollout of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles: Hydrogen Infrastructure Opportunities”, with speakers Nico Bouwkamp, California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP), and Bill Elrick, California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP)
Starts at 11:30am, they want $5 at the door and it’s good to RSVP.
Wednesday evening there is once again an unfortunate conflict between ASQ, IEEE-PES and the SF Peninsula Medical Device Meetup. ( and the Wednesday Car Show at Scott and El Camino, which is every week till Halloween, 4-7pm )
ASQ is offering “Holistic Approaches To Lean” with speaker Mike Micklewright, dinner meeting at the Biltmore, register today, Monday, to get the cheapest price. (Think this time I will be at this event, not the others.)
At the same time, same hotel, IEEE-PES features “Bloom Energy: Reliable Power for Mission Critical Systems”
The notice for the Medical Device MeetUp still shows this info:
"Wednesday, October 17, 2012
Mike's Sports Bar & Grill Menlo Park
150 Middlefield Road
Menlo Park, CA 94025"
But Mike’s has closed. Last month they met at the Westin in Palo Alto. I’ve been twice now, it’s a good opportunity to meet people and talk, it’s run / paid for by a couple guys from Aerotek, seems to attract a different group of mostly unemployed people each month. If you sign up, I imagine you’ll get the word as to where the meeting will be. Or shoot me an e-mail, I can likely find out.
Thursday morning I presume there will be the weekly Eco Green Group meeting at 8am in Saratoga, though there is no info yet on their website. ( Frankly it’s been tough for me to get to these early morning meetings, especially following any Wednesday evening event. )
Later at 10:15, at the same venue as EGG above, Csix will feature “Liat Zohar presenting The Secrets of Body Language and the Art of Active Listening”.
They get $5 but a lunch is provided.
Thursday night there is the long-awaited gathering of the Santa Clara Valley chapter of the Antenna and Propagation Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Dr. Jason Lohn, Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley will speak.
The title of his talk is:
Antenna Synthesis: A New Way to Approach Antenna Design
The meeting will be held at the Carnegie Mellon facility, Building 23,
Moffett Field, CA, Room 109/110
The meeting will start with food and beverages at 6:30 PM with the talk starting at 7:00PM. (High likelihood of folks from Loral being in attendance.)
Also on Thursday night, another unfortunate conflict, ASME hosts “Thirsty Third Thursday”, though the venue is yet to be announced. ( LMK if interested, I can contact the organizers and see if they’ve decided where to meet. I’ll likely be at the Antennas thing instead, gotta share the wealth.)
Friday morning there is Post Pro-Match at 9:30 at Connect.
Career Action Ministry looks interesting Saturday morning at 9:30, topic is “ Effective Networking: Taking a Pay It Forward Approach to Making Connections That Matter”, with Guest Speaker: Sandy Jones-Kaminski
Yet another unfortunate conflict, the Electric Auto Association will meet October 20,[masked]am - noon at CODA Silicon Valley in Santa Clara, 4175 Stevens Creek Blvd, with Featuring Guest Speaker: Alex Cannara, Thorium Energy Alliance.
Alex Cannara will talk about MSR (Molten Salt Reactors) and the kind that run on Thorium, LFTRS Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors.
( Does this mean nuclear powered vehicles will soon replace EV’s? Find out. )
For one reason or another, I wound up not being at the Tuesday evening Bio2Device event nor at the Wednesday evening PV event at PARC. Both were a last-minute coin toss. Went to the Wednesday car show but attendance was down at least 90% due to the weather. So that choice was a clinker.
I may be out of town Friday-Saturday this week, if so won’t be at PPM or CAM or the EV thing. Still there’s a worthy slate this week, a variety of events to choose from.
