BuzzConf Nights: Melbourne

Details

Virtual Reality, The Maker Revolution, and Meta Quine programming...

It's time for the first BuzzConf Nights event of the year!

We're going to condense the energy and variety of the BuzzConf festival into a single night of technical presentations, product demos, and entertainment. If you want a little taste of what BuzzConf is all about, this event is a great place to start!

Held in The Savoy Tavern in Melbourne, there will be plenty of options to eat and drink late into the night!

We'll be holding similar events all over Australia, so if you're not in Melbourne but would like to be involved in one of the other events just let us know!

Agenda

6pm - Drinks and socialising
7pm to 8:30pm - Technical presentations and demos
8:30pm until late - Music, drinks, and party

Presentations

Virtually There - The Emergence of Immersive Consumer Tech and What it Means For You - Stefan Pernar
Stefan is running Australia's leading immersive technology company with a focus on continuous innovation, 360 media production, as well as interactive application development. Looking back on 20 years in the corporate IT world and having held CIO and director level positions in Fortune 500 companies he brings a unique perspective to the table combining cutting edge innovation with corporate IT governance and service delivery expertise.

Meta-quines: Programs that make programs - Andy Kitchen
Andy Kitchen is a crazy programmer with a big heart. When he was a kid, the first program he ever wrote was an "AI". He though this was the coolest thing ever. Later, he realised it was a chatbot. He is now a researcher and consultant in machine learning specialising in neural networks. He is currently puzzling over how to teach computers to think about thinking and other meta-physical machinations.

Making: The Next Revolution - Cameron Leeson

Driven by the appearance of Makerspaces, the Maker revolution has not only been accelerated by access to tools, but in large part by the Maker community itself.

Cameron Leeson will present a brief overview of the recent international phenomenon of Making, and how new technology is changing the way we innovate.

Entertainment

Alpha Loopy - Real people creating live beats and tunes in front of your eyes.

With influences from Massive Attack, 60's lounge, and Romantic period orchestral music, Alpha Loopy is a punchy outfit embracing aural atmospherics and breakbeat rhythms to get you dancing.
