Hello fellow scribblers!

I hope you all are having a wonderful (and not so hectic) holiday season!

I would like to thank those who attended our first ever Holiday party last Saturday. Thank you for bringing such wonderful food for us to share and for joining in the games. I hope you all had as much fun as I did.

For those who missed the holiday party, you can see pictures and a write up of the event on my website:

As the year draws to an end, let me thank you all for being a part of the group. Thank you for attending our meetings and showing your support. Everything little thing you do—whether its showing up for meetings, leaving wonderful comments and ratings on our meetup page, or donating some cash to add to our funds, helps us a lot.

I formed the group a year and a half ago because I felt there was a need for a writing group that would support people like myself, who aspire to be published in the world of children’s books. I wanted a group that would provide mini-class sessions and would teach me not only about the publishing industry, but also about writing itself—and about writing for kids specifically.  Things quickly fell into place and now I believe we were all meant to meet and become a part of this growing writing family.

We have so much more that we want to do for you all—including more class sessions, more helpful handouts and events. This, of course takes time, which we are more than willing to give, and money—which unfortunately, we don’t have much of. We have already started the process of applying for a nonprofit status. We hope that once we get that 501c3 number, we will be able to ask other companies for help to fund our activities. This process will take a lot of effort, but we know that with your help, we will eventually be able to get our organization to the level we want it to get to.

Next year, our name will officially change from Torrance Children’s Book Writers to Children’s Book Writers of Los Angeles, or CBWLA. This is the name we are using in our current nonprofit application, and the name which we hope future authors like yourselves will mention as instrumental in their careers.

Special thanks must go out to Lucy, who drew the first concept design for the logo, based on the officers’ brainstorming session, and to Lena who found us a great designer to bring our concept to life.

And a special thanks likewise to Tiffani, whose idea led to the creation of our group’s motto. “Educating and inspiring writers on the road to publication” is something we hope to continue doing for many years.

I wish you all a warm Holiday Season and a wonderful New Year!

Warmest regards,

Nutschell Windsor
