What do you think about coincidence?

There is astonishing orderliness in existence, simultaneously, there is perplexing chaos and randomness… The universe seems at times an impeccably organized, immutable, perfectly “conceived” machine, and at times entirely out of control…

Is coincidence random with no meaning? Or is it determined and meant to happen, and does it have meaning? Do things just happen? Or, is there usually a reason behind it because things don't just happen?

I don't think I will be able to make the meeting so let me offer some definitions of "coincidence" for your consideration: a) the name that god uses when he wishes to remain anonymous; b) the inability to see what matters; c) connections not understood...

And these are closely related to my name, SirNDPT, if you can decipher that!

It would be great if 30 people actually did meet to talk about coincidence, because that's a good number to demonstrate the Birthday Paradox (...or not).

I think believing in coincidence depends on whether or not you believe in fate. Personally, I believe that I am responsible for all good and bad that happens in my life because every choice I make is of free-will and reason. Therefore, based on this way of life, I cannot say that coincidence (as we define it), exists because that would imply that I have no control over what happens in my life. However, given that it does occur, i would define coincidence as simply being the outcome of due probability, i.e. statistically, it must occur. I'm not set in my beliefs so I would love to hear other explanations :)

All Intellect Celebrators should give a chance to power up their intellect by hitting the Parks around town with a brisk walk and a vigorous game of Multiple-Frisbee: HOW ABOUT NEXT SUNDAY 2PM?
Coincidently the parks are afflush with bright leaves!

I think it largely depends on how you look at it - from a subjective standpoint, a coincidence might be meaningful insofar as we project our own meaning onto it. I don't think there is any grandoise meaning the "universe" or "God" has planned out for us, or if there is, it seems futile because we are unaware of it and we create our own meaning (or take on meaning from others in the world). Another way a coincidence might be explained is that it is a mere event among other events - the necessary consequent of previous events.
I think the question of whether coincidences have meaning is independent of if coincidences are determined or not.

Depends on your outlook on life, and whether the coincidence suits you. That's all I know about this because I don't put a lot of thought into it. I will make that meeting if homework permits. Damn! Homework is plentiful on some weeks! Anyone in the group good at biology (pathogens, bacteria), chemistry (glassware, medical lab equipment), clinical math (solutions/dilutions, statistics, etc.), and Laboratory Information Systems(LIS)? OK, I'm just kidding then.

I'm interested in issues of substance...in meaningful conversations that connect human beings to one another....and I like to laugh too!
Are we meeting today? If so, quelle venue and at what time?

There is definitely something to it. I am starting a business related to energy, metaphysics, the universe, conscious manifestation etc. so I dig very deep into these types of topics. It only seems random if you are unfamiliar with the grand scheme of things. Anything and everything is connected. The meaning of a coincidence varies, but through research, I have discovered that it is definitely not random

Being at the right place and the right time, being at the wrong place at the wrong time...what else? If it works out for us, we're happy, otherwise we ran into some bad luck?

This is a huge topic. It concerns our beliefs about "chance", "good luck" and probability.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
