Reducing Your Biases:  How Not to Try




An important part of critical thinking is recognizing our susceptibility to various kinds of distorting biases in reasoning, and reducing the effects of those biases if we can.  But there is considerable reason to believe that the seemingly obvious ways of doing this are probably not effective — indeed, they may well increase the effects of biases on our reasoning.  We will discuss what this means both for individual thinkers and for the larger project of public education.
