Cafe Scientifique: X-ray Diffraction & The Braggs

Details

The next Cafe Scientifique is on 'X-ray Diffraction & The Braggs' with Prof Chris Hammond.

At Leeds University in 1913, William Henry Bragg and his son William Lawrence Bragg, undertook pioneering work and made important breakthroughs in the use of x-rays to determine the atomic structure of crystals.

They shared the Nobel prize for physics two years later. Marking the centenary of the Braggs' discovery at Leeds of the first crystal structures, Chris Hammond will explain their achievements and the significance of their work on x-ray diffraction to crystallography and materials science today.
