The workshop will give an introduction of biomimicry as a design tool, starting at the single organism level through defining what is a system and how we can learn from ecosystems in the Leeds City Region.
You will be introduced to Earth’s operating conditions:
• Earth is in a state of dynamic non-equilibrium.
• Earth runs on sunlight, water and gravity
• Earth is subject to limits and boundaries.
• Nature uses cyclic process
Whilst considering that that life creates conditions conducive to life and that life adapts and evolves. The aim of event is to show how biomimicry can lead to more effective solutions and use far fewer resources.
A number of challenges will be presented to the attendees to give them an understanding of the methodology used by Richard in his continuing PhD research in biomimicry and urban design.
As part of the workshop, we are looking for real-life problems to consider. If you have a problem you’re currently working on, please send it to us, indicating whether or not you wish you or your organisation to remain anonymous. You will need to briefly describe the challenge and its context (including things like temperature, physical confines, budget, anything else that applies…)
Please send your problems to greendrinksleeds@gmail.com before 16 July 2013.
