Abstract:

Spark is one of those technologies that sky rocketed to dominance in record time. It's three corner stones of speed, ease of use, and rapid community development have made Spark the go to framework for large-scale data processing. This talk outlines the basics of the distributed computational model Spark offers, and shows how it can be used.

Outline:

• What is Spark? How does it relate to MapReduce and to Hadoop?

• Live examples of Spark in action.

• Map Reduce: Basics and essential algorithms.

• An overview of some of the most useful Spark libraries.

• How to setup spark for development?

• How to setup a cluster and run jobs in production and in a streaming scenario?

Biography:

Saher is engineering lead at Trustious and recently advanced analytics engineer at the OMS center of excellence. Saher has been working with Hadoop since 2010 and has been involved with numerous big data projects. Saher has a bachelor degree in computer science from the German University in Cairo and a masters degree from the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence.
