Moderate Scramble with Jen - Mt. Lougheed

Details

Jen Ross, our former Board Director, will be coming to town in July/Aug. Those who know her and would like to scramble with her and catch up on life in New Zealand, drop me a line and sign up. Will move people on to the trip 3 weeks prior.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION (There will be a test). I DO NOT PROVIDE GUIDED TOURS. IF YOU WANT A GUIDE YOU ARE ON THE WRONG TRIP.

Rules of Conduct (clickable): https://www.meetup.com/Calgary-Outdoor-Recreation-Association-CORA/pages/Rules_of_Conduct/. By participating in this CORA activity, you automatically agree to follow the CORA Rules of Conduct. Please read them by clicking here.

RSVP:
Update your RSVP as early as possible, at least 48 hours before the meeting time. If you are unable to attend for any reason whatsoever, LET ME KNOW as soon as possible. You cancel in less than 48 hours without a “really juicy story” (involving flying monkeys or UFO abduction) at your peril; I may not take you on my future trips. This is not a dating service; either you’re committed or you’re not. Be courteous to those waiting to attend. If you do not let me know, you will be recorded as a https://www.meetup.com/Calgary-Outdoor-Recreation-Association-CORA/pages/Rules_of_Conduct/ "no show".

Please indicate in your COMMENTS if you can drive, if necessary. I need to know if we have adequate transportation for all participants, not your preference to ride.

Please ensure you complete the questions thoroughly.

Participation: The trip organizer reserves the right to move people on and off the trip or wait list, or to increase or reduce the size of the group, in order to match people to the trip based on fairness, ability, safety, and other criteria. Hey! It’s my trip.

My cell phone is 869-6550. I drive a Silver Rav4 (but I’m not a soccer mom).

TRIP WAIVER AND CONDITIONS: You must sign a trip waiver to attend this event. Please read the document and fill in your personal details, but do not sign it. Your organizer will be your witness. Yearly membership fee is $20 which lasts until the Annual General Meeting in February 2013. Alternately, you may participate as a non-member for $5 for the day.

Description:
Day Hike

http://files.meetup.com/1575023/Difficulty%20Ratings.pdf Difficulty Rating (clickable): D7. The difficulty scale is more logarithmic than linear.
Distance:
Roundtrip Time: 8 hours est. (Only an estimate. Don’t make plans that depend on it. It’s the mountains.)
Height gain: 1,382m (Calgary Tower is 191m high)

One of the premier trips in the Rockies. Easy scramble but with distance, so it is rated moderate.

Level:
This is a moderate scramble. Lots of nasty scree. An average level of fitness is required but our pace is moderate-slow. Please be realistic about your abilities. Please gauge your abilities appropriately. Organizers are not here to babysit you. I don’t want to “Waste My Time in the Canadian Rockies.”

Bushwhacking and Off-trail: With many of my trips there is a good likelihood of bushwhacking and off-trail and that naturally means some route-finding. I tend to get off the beaten track and try to avoid “tourist” routes. If you want the tourist route, you’re on the wrong trip. You are warned. Don’t be surprised.

Dogs: No.

Driving and Directions:
To get there we'll meet in the parking lot at Dalhousie Stn. From Hwy 1 westbound to Canmore. Up the Spray Lakes road to Spencer Creek (beside Sparrowhawk).

Weather forecast: unknown
Trail conditions: unknown

Costs:
Members are free. Non-members fee is $5. Gas contributions for drivers (see below).

Transport:
CORA trips start at the trailhead. As a convenience to participants only, we meet at the meeting point in Calgary then car pool from there. Please be on time. We don't want to have to wait around long. You may choose to meet us at the trailhead, but please advise us ahead of time. Please indicate in your RSVP COMMENTS if you can drive, if necessary. Please reimburse some $$ to drivers for gas.

EQUIPMENT: Weather can change quickly -- rain, snow, wind, warm, or cold -- BE PREPARED. NO COTTON!
Mandatory – hiking poles or axe, sense of humour, lunch, at least 2 litres of water, layers, sturdy boots (unless you’re going shopping, runners or sandals are never appropriate footwear)
Recommended – helmet, camera, gaiters.
