Difficult Scramble. Mounts Whyte and Niblock.

Please carefully read the gear requirements and trip difficulty ratings. It is the responsibility of the participant to check for any updates, changes or cancellations before the trip. Gear checks will be conducted at the meet up location. Failure to have the required gear will result in the participant not attending the trip. Participants will also need to answer all the questions regarding this trip before I decide who attends.

An automatic waiting list has been created for this trip. Participants will be selected based on experience scrambling moderate to difficult scrambles. Participants must be punctual and have a good RSVP history. Which means they do not constantly change their RSVP statuses, are not regularly late and do not back out last minute. To put it simply, I decide who goes on this trip regardless of who signs up first.

Make sure that you have paid for a 2013 membership with the CSMC. Payment can be made online or at the meeting location. Waivers are mandatory for every trip and can be printed online or filled out at the meeting location. Cost for membership with the CSMC is $20 for 2013. Be sure to also bring extra money for car pooling costs.

Mount Whyte will be the primary objective for the day here with a quick side trip up Mount Niblock. This is a difficult scramble up loose terrain and also requires route finding.

Group size: Dependent on experience of group. 4-6

Route: From the Kane scrambles guide.
Difficulty: Difficult in dry conditions. Snow, ice, wind, etc, will greatly increase the difficulty of the trip. (Difficult scrambles consist of hands on scrambling on loose rock with exposure. Novices will be extremely uncomfortable on difficult terrain.)
Altitude: 2990 Meters
Elevation gain: 1500 Meters
Km’s: 17

Estimated trip time (Car to car): 8-10 hours.
(Please note that times listed above are only estimations. Trip could be longer or shorter depending on conditions of terrain, weather and group.)

Mandatory gear:

Mountaineering axe and knowledge of its use, hiking boots (Not shoes), helmet, warm clothes and gloves, shell jacket, pants and gloves, personal first aid kid and emergency blanket or bivy bag, food and water, headlamp, NO COTTON CLOTHES OR GEAR.

Gear recommended:

Camera, hiking poles.

Possible Hazards:

Ticks, rock fall, exposure (Not the naked kind), yogi bear, snow or ice, my sense of humor, high winds.

Expect this trip to be a moderate pace. Should there be good weather, expect quick stops for pictures and an extended break on the summit.

Hi Brandon, I was just curious to see what questions you had posted since I am new to this club. This put me on the wait list. I have no intention of doing this trip as I have done it previously. So, I am removing myself, sorry for the trouble.
