Tangle Ridge Moderate Scramble Weekend - Columbia Icefields

Tangle Ridge moderate scramble due to the elevation gain. The reward for your hard work is an absolutely stunning panorama looking west across the icefields.
If there are some larger snow patches, it will be possible to practice some ice axe self arresting as well.
On Saturday we will drive to Columbia Icefields/Wilcox Pass area and do an easy short climb since Sunday will be a long day.
You must make your own hostel reservations and then send me an email that you have done so.

Here is the hostel website and info. Check in time is 5 pm. If there is no more room, there is a campsite at the Columbia Icefields Near Athabasca Glacier. Please Let me know who wants to camp and has a tent.

HI-Beauty Creek Wilderness Hostel is surrounded by a great variety of nature's best creations, from the Columbia Icefield to Sunwapta and Stanley Falls and the caves along Woolley River. Located on Beauty Creek, canoeing or swimming in the cold glacier water for the brave are popular activities. Elk and even bears are often spotted in the area around the hostel. Bedding is supplied in summer.

Awesome weekend. You guys are great. Dirk - hope you're feeling better! Thanks for saving us with the mozzie-spray. Lorne - climbing soon! Did you finish your amazing brownie? Paul - thanks for rescuing us on the way back, and organising the whole thing. And K.C - I still smile thinking of you sitting there with your big pink ice cream.

    Hi Paul,

I took my name off the list as I realized I couldn't leave early Saturday morning. I will check tomorrow morning to see if I can make it happen. I will also be calling the hostel tomorrow morning as the online reservation system said that there were no spots available.

Hi Dirk, you can leave when you wish. I cannot leave Friday so this is why I organized the trip for Saturday. It is just easier to organize as a group than have the members meet up all over the place. The last multi day trip I had coordinated resulted in 2 members not attending as they wanted me to look for them at several campsites and which I did not have the time to do so. I am not sure which trip we will do on Saturday so it's hard to say where we will start from and where you will meet up with us.

You can meet us at the hostel after 5pm on Saturday if you wish.

I don't have an ice axe. Is it required, or just for practicing?

    • Paul R

No you don't need one Michael, it is only in case there was some lingering snow patches to practice on.

Can we already leave on Friday, or do we have to leave as a group on Saturday ?

My experience in scrambling is limited, but do a 1000m elevation hike (20 km) every weekend this summer so ... I hope that is enough experience to join :-)
