Twin Peaks (7,761') - 11 miles, 3,200' gain

Details

Join us for a leisurely trip in the Angeles National Forest as we bag another HPS peak, this one just south of the Angeles Crest Highway.

Twin Peaks (7,761') lies just below and south of Mount Waterman, the infrequently-open ski area on the Angeles Crest. This hike will be moderately strenuous, with gain coming both on the way out as well as the way back. The views, however, are sublime, and will more than make up for the effort.

There is a possibility we may see remnant snow in some areas, as we will traverse around the north side of Waterman. This means we will need to bring microspikes. This will NOT, however, be a technical snow climb, so if conditions are dicey, we will just turn around.

Totals should come in around 3,200', with around 1,000' coming on the way back from the summit.

NOTE: I have plans this particular evening back in SoCal, for which I should be back in plenty of time. So, if we are moving at a decent pace, I may add on Mount Akawie (7,283'). If we are able to do this add-on, it will add just over 1 mile rt with 400' gain. I already have to come back to this area for a couple other peaks, however, so if there is any chance my evening plans would be impacted, we will skip Akawie for another time.
