First "Game Creation Day"

Finally, we have a place to hold our first "Game Creation Day".

ideaSpace is not closest to the city but at least it give us a bit of comfort, internet connection, and it will be certainly not too busy on a Saturday. For future programs we can go for other venues but let's do this first one to learn how it goes.

I will open the doors for attendees at 10am. Try to get here by 11am.

NOTE: Please use this phone number on the day if the doors are closed or if you cannot find us: [masked]

We don't have a certain format yet, but during the last meetup we decided we want to share the same "assets" due to the lack of enough artists amongst us.

I think a pre-meetup would be good; I will try to sort one out.

Thanks

It was a great day yesterday. It's interesting to see what people can come up with in just a few hours.

Hi everyone! I'm thinking of coming along at lunchtime to meet people, and was wondering whether there's parking at IdeaSpace, or nearby?

    August 31, 2012

  • Ramin

Best if you bring something, I can take your orders and go get them as well - I drive; and I think there's a pizza shop that delivers to the venue too.

I presume there's somewhere there we can get some lunch or do we need to bring something?

    August 31, 2012

  • Ramin

So on Saturday some people are coming just to meet us rather than making games. For this reason let's say that our lunch break will be between 1pm and 2pm so that they know what time we are free. Other than that everyone is welcome to just stay around and chat to others who are not working...

Will post update at some point, when updating my blog :)

I think given the number of programmers it is better to work as individuals. However, we can also decide on the day - if everyone could make it by 10:30am.

Would be good to work with a team or another, not sure I would know where to start?:-)

@Katie & Brice, Yes the list is interesting. For Saturday we are free to use anything. So just bring what you think you will need. We are going to share the same assets which I will hand out on the day.

Hiya, so looming is Saturday. What software are we going to be working with ?Anything I need to install on my laptop before Saturday? The JS engines list is amazing did not realise there were so many. Sorry I could not make the pre event. :-) x

For the coders: https://gist.github.com/768272 has a very comprehensive list of javascript gaming engines.

Nice to meet everyone last night! I'm interested in attending Saturday's event; however, given my lack of game development skills, I was wondering if you would not mind me dropping by during more social parts of the day....keen to gain insights on game industry trends and your thoughts around virtual good commerce. What time is best?

    August 29, 2012

  • Ramin

I'm wondering where Katie is!? She was keen on doing this too :)

Hoping to come along... Been a tough few weeks. Hope the pre meet goes well tonight. Happy beer hunting.

I'm going to let myself choose assets for everyone coming on Saturday. I won't compete or if I do you can deduct credit for this :) I have found a good resource, it is from a completed game, and I am sure we can use the assets (have to double check the copyright but I'm sure where I got it from let us use them). These are 2D assets, so if anyone is thinking 3D then you're free to use whatever assets you like on the day - at least until we find good 3D assets and get used to creating 3D games in a day :) Let's see what else we are going to need...

@everyone I was going to be on top of this but work has been brutal during the last couple of weeks. (literally have not slept in 48H.)

I'm away this w/e. let me get on my feet and I'll get back Re assets, etc...

    August 23, 2012

  • Ramin

Right, OK so we can talk on the 28th. I have just created a meetup so we can be a bit more prepared. Come along if you can. Picking on the day is a good idea too.

I thought we'd be picking those on the day so no-one gets a head start!

    August 23, 2012

  • Ramin

@Brice, has anyone managed to find any good assets for the day yet? We would need these soon.

Hello, just wanted to say thanks to Ramin for his welcome. Indeed there aren't many of us audio people and I try to be as involved with the development scene in Cambridge as possible so anyone looking for audio outsourcing feel free to drop me a line.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make this meetup, but I'll keep my eye on the group and next time there's a social I'll make sure I come along and say hi, cheers!

    August 21, 2012

      Hi PJ, great.
