We recently filled the Communications Secretary position on our board. Helen Ewan has been approved to join the organizing staff here on Meetup and be the Secretary for CCH.
The AHA usually calls the title by another name, "Membership Secretary" but it's still the same responsibilities. The Communications Secretary is someone who focuses specifically on maintaining the membership list, reminds people when it's time to renew, and helps to coordinate announcements to group members between meetings. They may also focus on attracting new members and responding to member needs.
So. let's all; give her a warm welcome! :) On this site, you will periodically receive emails from either me or Helen when it comes to matters concerning the group and such.
One other aspect I need to address is Membership dues. If you are a "member" on this meetup page, you are considered a member of the group. Thus, you are expected to pay memberships dues. Paying dues is an important part of a group's existence. Consider it an investment in something you want to see grow and have an interest in. By being a paying member, you make the group partially yours in a sense.
The deadline for your membership dues is April 1st of this year. If you miss this deadline, we will have to remove you from this page (not ban) until the matter can be resolved. Believe me, this is something we don't wan to do and we hope it does not come to this. But, for groups like this to survive, it takes a vested interest from it's members.
