Cleanup weekend at Tamworth Camping Area = Free Camping

Once again we will be going to The Tamworth Camping Area campground in Tamworth, NH for their annual cleanup weekend. Please join us and if you haven't been here before I do suggest you request a waterfront site, they're some of the best sites anyplace we camp. Make sure to check back here and post your site number once confirmed, also let them know you're with Todd.

Here's the information from their website:

Campfor free* in exchange for helping us clean up the camping area. We require three hours of work from each person in your camping party over the age of 10 years. * You may have the campsite from 3:00PM on Friday to 1:00PM on Sunday by raking, picking up trash, etc. on Saturday morning from 9AM to Noon. We also invite you to join us for a Pot-Luck Supper on Saturday evening. Each family or couple is asked to bring either a casserole, salad or dessert (enough for eight servings) and your own plates and utensils. Coffee is provided. Bring your own cold beverage. Please call us at[masked] to make a reservation!

Does the campground have group or overflow primitive camping?

    April 8, 2014

    • Todd

I know WHAT it is, I also know there is a group camping area without W/E etc. that they for things like the Pow Wow, and the brewers festival but I've never in all the time I've been doing the clean up weekend seen it used.

    April 22, 2014

  • Nancy G.

I don't think I will be abe to buy a tent before the event. Is there anyone that can let me sleep in their tent? I will bring extra food for compensation.

    April 21, 2014

    • Martha

If you have a site...I have the tent..Let's have a slumber party:) room for 2 air mattresses...Eric needs a spot so hopefully we can make this happen for all who want to attend

    April 22, 2014

  • Dave

We will arrive after dark on Friday and will need a relatively level spot to park our camper van. Pick another spot on site #30. Mary Ann &I will see you at the campfire.

    April 18, 2014

    • Dave

Whatever works, Christine. If you don't use it maybe someone else can.

      April 21, 2014

  • Kelley

Hey all... Since we are now camping on the 9th of May, site 29 has now opened up due to my 'peeps' schedules. According to management, she said that two tents per site and up to 4 adults per site. I will call the campground about site 29 this weekend.

    April 18, 2014

    • Kelley

Hi Christine, I haven't spoke to the campground management yet. Would you like to take site 29 and I confirm it with them when they return my call?

      April 20, 2014

  • Eric

Hi all, Looks like we're down to just a couple on the wait list before me. If there's space AFTER the others are all in... I have a 10 x 14 tent I would like to throw up somewhere for the weekend. Thanks, Eric

    April 18, 2014

  • Kelley

I have sites 24,26, and 29. With the date change, I may have tent sites available. I am confirming with everyone from the Saco, Maine area and should have their responses shortly.

Same here we have a travel trailer. If there is a tent pad and the campground is ok with the double occupancy, then it's available too.

      April 8, 2014

  • Don E.

    We have site #6.
Not sure how big the site is - we have a small trailer and pickup truck. Might be room for a small tent if someone wants to squeeze in.

    April 7, 2014

  • Martha

Because of the date change I was able to attend but am unable to get a site. Hope to meet all of you around a campfire sometime soon.

    April 7, 2014

  • Todd

    Hi,

Please let me know if you have been in contact with Tamworth Camping Area, and have a confirmed site. It is my understanding that all sites have been reserved for the cleanup weekend. I'm trying to see how many of you who RSVP'd yes for this event have managed to get a site. Also if you have a confirmed reservation and want to share your site (there is no pressure to do so) please let others know.

This is a good reminder that campsites in many campgrounds do tend to fill early, and you shouldn't wait until it's too late to make your reservation. This event has been posted here since February, just after making my own reservation.

    April 2, 2014

  • Todd

Please note, I just received a email from Tamworth Camping area that they're changing the date due to the the continuing winter conditions which make it unlikely they will be dried out enough by the earlier date, If this changes your plans please update your RSVP.

      Hi Paula

      March 16, 2014

    • Karen W.

I just moved to Acton this past Sept.but have family here. Thanks for the offer of a heater. Do they have electrical hookups? I have lived most recently in Rochester,NH.and am a nurse. Don't believe I have been in Arundel. The summer I froze I was in a tent and on an air mattress with a sleeping bag and a wool blanket. My brother tells me that avtarp under my tent would have helped

      March 16, 2014

  • Todd

I would just like to remind folks that there is a commitment here and you should bring rakes, work gloves, maybe a leaf blower, etc. What they will do is assign you a few (depending on the number in your party) sites, including your own that you will need to rake. People tend to all help each other out as well. I do know from experience that they will not receive their fire permit until the raking is done. This means that you will not be able to have a campfire on Friday night.

However as I'd mentioned in the first comment, I will host a meet and greet on my site for Friday evening. I have a Camp Chef propane fire ring which I'm certain will get us by without violating the fire permit rule, and still allow us the campfire experience.
