presentation of package 'plotKML' by Tomislav Hengl
Hosted by Canberra R Users Group
Details
Tomislav will give a 1.5 hrs tutorial on 'plotKML' - a suite of functions for converting sp-class objects into KML or KMZ documents for use in Google Earth. plotKML offers R users a toolset for visually exploring spatio-temporal data: sampling locations, mapping units (polygons), gridded maps, vertical profiles, ground photographs and similar. It integrates power of R considering the analysis possibilities, and power of KML/Google Earth considering the ease of visual exploration.
Tomislav Hengl is a senior researcher at the ISRIC World Soil Information institute, Wageningen University. Tom specializes in analysis of various environmental spatio-temporal data and develops automated tools for geo-processing large environmental datasets.
He is currently the project leader of the Global Soil Information Facilities –an ISRIC's initiative to build tools to facilitate global soil mapping activities. Tom is also vice-chair of the international research society Geomorphometry (www.geomorphometry.org) and leader of the GEOSTAT Summer Schools on spatio-temporal analysis in R and open source GIS (www.geostat-course.org). He has edited a DEM data processing manual (www.geomorphometry.org/book) and an open access book on geostatistical mapping (www.spatial-analyst.net/book).
He is also the author of the book “A Practical Guide to Geostatistical Mapping”.
