Canine Adventure's Human Adventure Message Board › New Meetup: Socialization Walk: Putting Marshall to Work!
Announcing a new Meetup for Canine Adventure's Human Adventure!
What: Socialization Walk: Putting Marshall to Work!
When: Saturday, April 30, 2011 9:00 AM
Price: $10.00 per person
Where: Forest Hill Park
1700 42nd Street
Richmond, VA 23225
Why: There are some members who are concerned about their dogs' social skills. These pups need to get out and have fun too! Let's do it! This will be a structured hike with no free playtime, for those dogs who need some time with others.
Marshall will be out to help those dogs who are "socially challenged" have a good time on a leashed walk through Forest Hill Park. This is for adventurers who's dogs don't play well in a group, or who are developing social skills.
Our hike will be on-leash the whole time, very structured, and in areas where we will have room to help our dogs share the hike. This will be a small group so we can manage social interactions effectively.
Sorry, there are rules...
-If your dog is vicious toward others (i.e. you can't come within sight of another dog without yours flipping their lid), this is not the hike for you.
-Leashes must be 6 feet or less, and dogs must be kept near their owner. This is a good idea in general, but a must for this hike.
-No off leash hiking... at all! If you like the off-leash time, there are more hikes coming up for you and your pup. Don't worry!
-If your dog hasn't been on a walk at all for more than a week, please don't come out. This is not the place to start working on good leash etiquette.
THIS HIKE IS FOR YOU, IF...
-You want a chance to work together with understanding people to help your dog learn their manners around others.
-Your dog doesn't do well at the dog park.
-You are actively working with a trainer or spending an inordinate amount of time online reading about dog aggression and how to quell it.
-Your dog does well on lead, but tends to go a little wild when other dogs are around.
-You have a very friendly dog who wants to help other dogs who need friends!
If you have specific questions about whether your dog would fit well in this group, please send an email!
Check it out!
Will you be organizing any more of these types of walks? I think this would be great to get my dogs started! Thanks-Shannon
