Monthly Meeting
Details
Greetings and welcome to yet another "just in a knick of time" notice of our monthly calligrapher's guild meeting!
This month's meeting (Sat, June 2) will feature a wonderful presentation on hand-made books by our fellow member, Maryanne Grebenstein of the Abbey Studio in Hingham, MA. Maryanne is one of those rare people who lives with the affliction of having ink in her blood. She has been a student, a practitioner, and a teacher of calligraphy and the bookarts for years. The wonder of her work is that, after all these years, and all that teaching, she remains a student herself - always inquisitive, always looking for new information and breaking new ground. Maryanne's presentation will be an inspiring send off as we take the next two months off. She will surely fill our heads and our hearts with visions of masterful manuscripts which we can dwell upon over our summer hiatus!
In addition to Maryanne's presentation, I encourage EVERYONE to bring a piece or pieces for sharing and discussion. Bring your failures, your successes, the pieces that have you stumped and the pieces in which you overcame a particular challenge.
While we will sail our different courses over the summer, we hope to keep our hand sharp and an eye toward our fellow scribes by creating an envelope exchange for our guild. Lisa Luckritz will have more detailed instructions in our June newsletter (yes, inaugural!). But, simply put, an envelope exchange is where you create one envelope for each member of your exchange group and you, in turn, receive beautiful envelopes from those members in your mailbox. It is a wonderful way to share in the calligraphy experience, to give and to receive. To sign up, please email me before June 15 at this address ( capecodcalligrapher@gmail.com
) with "Envelope Exchange" in the subject line.
There are no tools required for Maryanne's presentation, but please do remember to bring something, anything calligraphy related to share!
See you on Saturday!
Rick
