Una Noche will experience the magical melodies and rhythms of a virtuoso pianist and the most important figure in Cuban music in the 20th Century. Ernesto Lecuona, composer of Malaguena, was also well-known in the USA especially during the 30’s 40’s and 50’s. Lecuona’s repertoire spans theater works, orchestral scores, violin works, ballets, film score and other arrangements. His reputation has waned somewhat over the years due to the USA’s relationship with Havana and changes in musical tastes, but not forgotten. Still, Lecuona’s prodigious activities as a composer and performer were enormously influential not only throughout Cuba but also in the rest of Latin America, Spain and the United States. He was one of the authentic geniuses of Latin American Music.
The evening will be a talk by, John Murelle on the influences Lecuona made in Latin and American music, followed by a concert duet . John, a baritone singer will be accompanied by his pianist and will follow the talk with Lecuona's more popular compositions like Siempre en mi Corazon, Siboney, and Malaguena; very popular traditional Latin songs.
