Professor Kline is a database guy with a slant towards SQL for good reasons. But in the era of alternate databases, are NoSQL databases here to stay and where are they best used. Come find out.

Douglas Kline, Ph.D., is an Information Systems professor at UNC Wilmington, and is currently the director of the MS in Computer Science and Information Systems graduate program. Before returning to higher education, he worked for Computer Horizons Corporation as a Software Developer, System Architect, and Project Manager, managing a team of 15 on a large custom middleware project. As an IS Professor at Sam Houston State University, he helped create the Management Information Systems major in the College of Business Administration. He has been at UNC Wilmington since 2001, teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. He has published in the areas of IT Strategy, IS Curriculum, Artificial Neural Networks, and User Perceptions of Security. He has been teaching MS SQL Server for over 10 years in graduate and undergraduate classes. He focuses on SQL Internals and Data Structures, Query Analysis, Indexing Strategies, and Designing for Performance.
