Updates, Reminders and THANKS!

Hi all.
We just reached the 500 member mark and this is well beyond the growth that I imagined. We have been in existence for almost two years now and the concept was the brain child of Eileen. Thanks to her for creating Capital District Volunteers!! I "inherited" the group last Thanksgiving when we had about 150 people and every week new members have signed up. This goes to show just how many people want to make a difference in our community through volunteering.

Word has gotten around fast and opportunities just keep popping up. I love that we have a good variety of things that happen on different days and times that hopefully accommodate most volunteers schedules. The response to the posted events sometimes overwhelms me with emotions as I see the positions fill so quickly and people even show up in cold, drizzly rain. You guys constantly remind me that there ARE lots of generous, dedicated people in this world!

The calendar is filling up already for the holiday season. More and more of our members bring new ideas to the group along with our ongoing relationships with the Park Service, the City of Albany, Tour de Cure and the Food Bank of Northeastern NY. If you have an idea, pass it along and we will try to make it happen. Some of you may not know that there is a list of volunteer opportunities on the PAGES link at the top of our HOME page. If you want something added there, let me know.

My mandatory cost for the Meetup website itself is $45 every three months.
I rely on membership dues to help fund it and associated expenses. If you have not paid your dues, it would be greatly appreciated however not required for membership; every cent goes back into the group and then some. The link to pay is on the far left of the HOME page. You can also pay me in person but it would be helpful to put your dues in an envelope with your name on it so it doesn't get forgotten by ME!
Again, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the work you have been so eager to help with. I commend you for respecting your RSVPs because this is what has greatly contributed to us becoming a group of people that our community leaders can trust and rely on!
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!

Sometimes, in some situations, it is hard to determine who is with our group. I have been thinking about simple ways to identify ourselves besides name tags...maybe pin-on tags with our logo...or even someday, some t-shirts.
For now, I am thinking a simple good way would be for members to wear a white hat such as a plain white cap...or a white knit cap for the upcoming cold events. A lot of you know me now although I must admit that I am bad about remembering all of your names. Forgive me for getting old! Keep my phone number handy for times when you cannot find us, are late or cannot make an event. 269-7970.
Again, special thanks to Eileen for coming up with the original idea to create Capital District Volunteers!

I look forward to seeing all of you soon as we go through the Holiday season!!

From your VERY grateful organizer,

Sharon Witbeck
