Come join us to kick start our first talk of the ScienceAccess series! The aim of ScienceAccess is to provide a platform where the science and research done at the Universities, companies and other research organizations could be shared with the general public. Our goal is to inform, promote and facilitate discussions about the results of the scientific research both by scientists and non-scientists.

Out of CRISPR/Cas9 - gene editing and its implications:

Chances are that you would have heard about this as being touted as 'The' technology that is going to usher in a new era in Molecular Biology and our fight against diseases. You would have also read about the heated patent war that is being waged about this technological tool.
Is CRISPR/Cas9 is the magic tool to be wielded by the mighty scientists to eradicate the diseases of the world? What is the molecular biology and history behind this tool?
What has been achieved so far with CRISPR/Cas 9 tool?
What are the implications of gene editing technology for us in the future?
Are we/will we be crossing the thin fine line of ethics with gene editing?

Join us at this meeting to find out more through the presentation by Dr. Elavarasi Joseph and take part in an open discussion to share your own thoughts about CRISPR/Cas9 and the gene editing technology. If you are, in case, wondering who the heck is Dr. Unpronounceable First name person is and whether it will be worth sacrificing your Sunday afternoon for her (Yes, it is a she not a he :) ), here is the LinkedIn profile link of Dr. Joseph https://www.linkedin.com/in/elavarasi-joseph-7605016a
