De Anza Cove - Coronado Flatlander

By popular demand, we are riding to Coronado from De Anza Cove on the north end of Mission Bay! Please note that we are meeting at the north-most parking lot off from De Anza Rd from N Mission Bay Dr rather than at the official De Anza Cove lot. It is a less busy lot and has a restroom close by.

C group is doing the basic 38 mile ride (route map (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6533881)). This is a very flat ride and we will spend a lot of time on Bayshore Bikeway (a paved car-free multi-use path) riding around the San Diego Bay.

A & B groups can choose between doing the same route as C ride but at faster pace, or adding an optional inland detour into Otay Mesa to increase the mileage to about 52 miles with a bit of climbing (route map (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6544199)).

Either way we will be catching the ferry back to town from Coronado, so please make sure that you have at least $4.25 (http://www.flagshipsd.com/coronado-ferry) with you along with the usual spare inner tube, frame pump or CO2 cartridge, at least one water bottle and some snacks for self.

Meetup spot: Please note the meetup spot. We are meeting at the last parking lot off from De Anza Rd (between Mission Bay Park and the RV resort), not at the official De Anza Cove one. Meeting time is 9 a.m.

Bayshore Bikeway (http://www.sandag.org/?projectid=63&fuseaction=projects.detail) is a popular path where locals come out to jog or take their young children biking. Please be considerate to all path users, especially those on foot. They have the right of way over bicycles! Give plenty of warning when you approach, slow down until you can safely swing around to pass... Also note that cross traffic in the Silver Strand area (those resorts you'll pass as you head north into Coronado) usually don't have stop sign. When in doubt, slow down and yield to other traffic!
