De Anza Cove - Coronado Flatlander
Details
After what seems like many weeks of hitting the hills, this week we are going to start down at De Anza Cove in Mission Bay and enjoy a very flat ride with cooling ocean breezes. It is supposed to be unseasonably warm Saturday, so it's a great time to hug the coast. The main portion of the ride that all groups will do is approximately 38 miles, much of which will be on bike trail. This is a very flat ride, so if you have been wanting to check out the group, this is a great week to try us out. We have done this ride many times, and it is always enjoyable. The ride meanders through downtown San Diego, then all along the Bay, and up the Silver Strand to Coronado Island, where we generally manage to find time to sneak in a Cold Stone while we wait for the ferry.
We are planning on having three ride leaders available this Saturday, so there can be 3 groups based on speed.
Route for all groups (A, B, C): 38 mile ride (route map (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6533881)). This is a very flat ride and we will spend a lot of time on Bayshore Bikeway (a paved car-free multi-use path) riding around the San Diego Bay.
Options for making the ride longer: Those who are interested can join Heather in climbing Mt. Soledad post-ride - it just so happens we are starting/ending right at the base on the south side! (You know, just in case you are missing the climbing we often do!)
We will be catching the ferry back to town from Coronado, so please make sure that you have at least $4.25 (http://www.flagshipsd.com/coronado-ferry) with you along with the usual spare inner tube, frame pump or CO2 cartridge, at least one water bottle and some snacks for self.
Meetup spot: Please note the meetup spot. We are meeting at the last parking lot off from De Anza Rd (between Mission Bay Park and the RV resort), not at the official De Anza Cove one. Meeting time is 8 a.m. (CORRECTED)
Our rides are no drop, and we make every effort to find the right group for you. There are three group leaders, with the following general average speed guidelines on mixed terrain:
A Group: 16-18 mph
B Group: 14-16 mph
C Group: 12-14 mph
