Speaker:
Patrick McFadin
Lead Evangelist, DataStax
Bio:
Patrick McFadin is one of the leading experts of Apache Cassandra and data modeling techniques. As the Chief Evangelist for Apache Cassandra and consultant for DataStax, he has helped build some of the largest and exciting deployments in production. Previous to DataStax, he was Chief Architect at Hobsons, an education services company. There, he spoke often on Web Application design and performance.
Title:
A Little Cassandra for the Relational Brain
You would love to try some Apache Cassandra but that relational brain is still on? You aren’t alone. Let’s take that OLAP data model and get it OLTP. As you will see, static schema, one-to-many, many-to-many still have a place in Cassandra. From the familiar, we'll go into the specific differences in Cassandra and tricks to make your application fast and resilient. Real techniques to translate application patterns into effective models and common pitfalls that can slow you down and send you running back to RDBMS land.

Speaker:
Pierre-Yves Ritschard
CTO Exoscale
Bio:
Pierre-Yves is CTO at exoscale where he is responsible for architecture and strategic technology choices, relying on experience in the architecture of very large corporate systems as well as technical product design in several startups.
Pierre-Yves is an active member of the open-source community as author of pithos and cyanite as well as key contributions to OpenBSD, collectd and riemann amongst others as well as a DataStax Cassandra MVP (http://www.planetcassandra.org/mvps/).
Title:
Pithos: Your personal S3 object store on Cassandra.
Abstract:
This talk will give an overview of the distributed file storage ecosystem and will then focus on the promises and compromises of object storage and blob storage.
Pithos will then be presented showcasing how it leverages several aspects of Apache Cassandra to break-up object storage in:
A global bucket ownership store
A metadata store
An inode store
Feedback from running pithos in production for a year and half will then be given, outlining upcoming improvements in pithos.
-----
In addition to the talks there will be, as usual, plenty of opportunity to meet other Cassandra users and enjoy robust discussions around NoSQL.
Special thanks to iland Ltd (http://www.iland.com/). who are hosting us for this event!
Big thanks to long term supporter DataStax (http://www.datastax.com/). DataStax are one of the largest supporters of the Cassandra project and offer comprehensive support as well as their own distribution of Cassandra, Spark and Solr (DataStax Enterprise).
NOTE: We are unable to cater for any attendees under the age of 18. Please do not sign up for this event if you are under 18.
