Very interesting. New to the group, but I never got any of those impressions. So you hear another perspective, I am very happy I went last night. Not knowing anyone, (but briefly), I feel like I am going to really enjoy this. Everyone is so enthusiastic and willing to help and teach - amazing. As far as "risks"? Well, that's is what LIFE is all about! Sadly, there is a time when "risks" out-weigh the fun, but that is a personal choice I would think.

Ray, glad to hear that you let this "water run from the ducks back"! gee, sometimes I think I am so witty! I got the feeling that the club would suffer a great loss if you weren't to participate as you do and until the day I am a fully dressed kayak-er, I hope to partake in your organizing! Hopefully someday I can help more. Until then, I hope to do more and see more and meet everyone! Thank you for all you do!

Hey Ray ~ Thanks for what you do for everyone. In speaking, I am the oldest female participating in both clubs and quite honestly everyone has always been very helpful and kind to me helping me unload and load up and it with great thanks that i acknowledge the caring and sportsman like attitude of everyone that I paddle with.

Subject: [Catawba-Cruisers] Thanks to all of you

Let me first start off with my apologies for not conducting a meeting following dinner at Luigi's last night. I really did not have much that I needed to go over. And it was running a little late with some people not being served their meals with everyone else. If we are going to continue with meets at that location, I will have to speak to them about having more servers.
There are just a couple of brief items that I would like to mention. I will be extending the donations for St.Jude till the end of the month. You can make contributions through Paypal or Amazon Payments and I will make the donation on behalf of the club at the end of month. We do have a total of $171 so far. Thank you to all that contributed.
There was an email sent to me by Meetup as a member had left the group. She answered why she left with the following: "I've heard some very negative things about the risks taken by this group and the lack of attentiveness to the needs of all the members participating in any given activity.  I have a spinal cord injury and so don't look for unnecessary risks.  Nor do I want to be made to feel that I'm not "daring enough" for this group.  No, I haven't tested this out myself but have trusted what I've heard from multiple other people who have participated in this group's activities.  Some have indicated that the leadership isn't responsible."
My response is this. I have never asked someone to do anything that they are not comfortable with. As far as I know there has never been anyone else that has done that. Nobody is asked to do anything outside of their comfort range. I do my best to describe all paddles that I post and I have always answered to the best of my ability any questions that members have had. I will say this much though. The whole reason that I do NOT charge a fee for membership is that I do not wish to run this as a business. That is why it is strictly donations. If I do not receive any monies, I pay the fees myself. If I were to run it as a business then I would be taking on the risk that we all face for being involved with outdoor activities. There is an inherit danger to the activities we do and each of us is responsible for ourselves. While we do try to look after each other. You are responsible for your own actions.
I really do not understand where all of this came from. The person that left that message I do not recall her ever paddling with us.
On a lighter note. I have decided that I do have a passion for all of this and will be staying on as organizer. I will be working on a schedule of meetups soon and hope that I see many of you on the water, the mountains or wherever our path leads us. If anyone has an idea for a place they would like to see us go. Please shoot me an email. If you would like to be an event organizer, let me know. I always say this and it bears repeating. This is not my group. It is your group. It is what we all make of it.
Again I thank all that came out last night. I had a great time. The only part that I dislike about the large groups is that I do not have time to speak with each of you. I really do look at all of you as an extended family.
Till next time. Be safe......
