This month we have two presentations from the team at Geoplex. Warwick Sayers will be presenting on the practical applications of ArcGIS geodatabases and Enterprise Architect, whilst Anthony Burgon will briefly touch on the modelling of spatial data and set the scene for Warwick - introducing some of the work that went into the spatial capability of Enterprise Architect and why it is important.
These look set to be two very interesting presentations focussing on the geospatial sector, in which Enterprise Architect is heavily used.
Geospatial in the Enterprise
Geospatial has become, and is becoming intrinsic to information systems. With just about everyone using applications like Google Maps, people are understanding the value of knowing not only the "who", "what" and "when", but also the "where". The relationship to where things are provides a perspective that is hard to digest with only a non-spatial view of the world. This presentation will look at the patterns and trends that have revolutionised the paper map, and how geographic information systems and becoming part of the mainstream ICT systems within enterprises.
About Anthony Burgon
Anthony is the Product Director at Geoplex and has recently worked in leading roles with Esri in Redlands. With over 18 years of experience designing, developing, implementing and deploying IT systems, Anthony brings a track record of project delivery and successful project management. Focused on innovative, yet simple solutions for complex problems, Anthony works with, and directs teams to complete projects through the full spectrum of the project/ software development lifecycles (from concept to full operational status). Anthony has a thorough understanding of enterprise based information systems, database technologies, IT infrastructures and architectures, and is a spatial information systems evangelist.
Practical Applications of ArcGIS Geodatabases and Enterprise Architect
A reality of the information and internet age is the ever increasing volumes of information that is being collected, processed, digested and understood. Geoplex has been involved in interesting projects that provide a platform for information digestion and presentation within organisations that have to make clear and concise decisions about data that is available to them. A cornerstone to projects like these is the bedrock of how the data is modelled, and the specific question for Geoplex to solve: How do you model the integration of geospatial data within an Esri Geodatabase, and other databases? This presentation will look at a practical example of how Enterprise Architect has been used to help provide a solution. The presenter will also demonstrate how the new Geodatabase profile within Enterprise Architect will enable more clarity, quality and substantial time savings.
About Warwick Sayers
Warwick is a senior geospatial analyst at Geoplex and a leading spatial database expert. He has over 15 years of experience designing, modelling and implementing geodatabases on top of major RDBMS technologies. A passionate advocate of spatial technologies, and with senior roles in the spatial industry in Australia, Warwick has a long history integrating major GIS technologies, including the Esri software stack.
Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting.
