Why: organizer fees

I’m looking for fellow history lovers to explore cemeteries!

So - if you have local favorites that you want to share with someone else, or if there are any you’ve wanted to check out but haven’t gotten the chance, this group is for you. If you’re involved with projects to survey cemeteries (I’m not sure if there’s anything organized here?), or headstone transcription/photography, that would be excellent as well. Or, you may just enjoy the scenery and quiet. Join and share!

I’m hoping to get at least 4 or 5 participants before starting meet-ups, for safety purposes. I’ll set the first as soon as there are enough interested.

The game plan would be to meet at a different cemetery each month or so, with one person (myself to start) “hosting” by doing brief research beforehand, then spending an hour or two (or the afternoon) walking around.

***NOTE: This group is primarily for people who are interested in the art and history of area cemeteries. ALL trips will be in daylight, during normal visiting hours, and will not involve ghost hunting, etc. though stories are fine if they apply specifically to the that location. People from any religious/spiritual/afterlife belief systems are more than welcome, but please expect to incorporate these in to your experience privately and discreetly.

“I love genealogy, love looking at old headstones, wondering what the person's life was like, what their family was like and why they died. I visited an old cemetery where my favorite headstone was very simply and made of bois d'arc.”
