OWU Freethinkers Host "Polar Opposites" on 3/25/2013
Former-Pastor-turned-Atheist and Former-Atheist-turned-Pastor explain their differing worldviews and answer questions about them.
Dan DeMura and Adam Pursel come from similar backgrounds but have arrived at different conclusions. The Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) Freethinkers will host a discussion between them on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM and have invited all interested persons. The event will start with a 30 minute presentation followed by questions from the audience.
Adam Pursel This Mount Vernon, Ohio native was an atheist while attending Ashland University (2001 BS in math, minor in physics, magna cum laude with honors, math faculty top senior math student). Adam became a Christian while pursuing a masters in mathematics at Miami University (Ohio). He taught high school math for five years and coached football, basketball and track. Adam graduated summa cum laude from Liberty University with MA in Theological Studies and has been a pastor for seven years (currently "Teaching Pastor") at LifePoint Church in Lewis Center, Ohio. He is starting a new church called LifePoint in Mt. Vernon and is married with two young children.
Dan Demura Originally from Oklahoma, Dan got "saved" in the Assemblies of God at age 14. While serving in the US Navy's Naval Nuclear Power Program, he received Chaplain training and conducted protestant church services while at sea. After the military he served in the ministry of Calvary Chapel Fellowship of Churches as Sunday School Director and Home Group Leader and from 2001 - 2004 was lead pastor for a northwest Columbus church. In 2009, he admitted to himself that he no longer believed. Dan is a member of the Clergy Project (active and former clergy who no longer believe), facilitates the Columbus Chapter of Recovering From Religion, serves on the Board for the Humanist Community of Central Ohio and is writing his first book titled "Discussions of Doubt".
The event will be in room 312 of the Corns Building (78 S Sandsuky St, Delaware, OH 43015) at Ohio Wesleyan University. The Corns building is located on the west side of S.
