Evan's Project: Urban Scrawl 2014

"Urban Scrawl is a 2-day festival that takes place in late August each year that features the live creation of murals by Columbus artists, artist and food vendors, as well as performances by musicians, DJs and breakdancers. Since 2006 Urban Scrawl has provided Columbus artists a way to flex their creative muscle and participate in Central Ohio’s largest ongoing urban renewal project. Each year the number of participants, panels, sponsors and attendees grows making this a landmark Summer event in Columbus, Ohio. Once the panels are completed they are weather sealed and mounted in cooperation with Franklinton businesses to help enliven the re-growing community of Franklinton, Central Ohio’s historic first settlement. Panels not hung are auctioned off at the annual Franklinton Arts District fundraiser to raise money for the next year’s Urban Scrawl event, our Go West! event, and other outreach programs in the neighborhood." []

The 2014 event will be held at 400 W. Rich St., a former factory warehouse that now includes artist studios, rehearsal spaces for musicians, an art gallery and Dinin’ Hall. The festival takes place on Saturday August 23th noon-10pm, and Sunday August 24th noon 6pm. Selected artists are given 1-2 primed, 4’ x 8’ vertical OSB panels to create their artwork during the festival. The Franklinton Arts District supplies the panels, paint and some painting supplies. Artists may work singly or as part of a local arts organization.

COUNT wants to memorialize Evan Yoder (deceased COUNT member who proposed doing this project), help the Franklinton community (urban renewal) and publicize non-theist contribution.

I'll be at the Kids' Art station from 12-3 on Sunday! It looks like they still need folks to do it 3-6.

I am having minor surgery on the 21st and will need to lay low this weekend. I wish I could help.

Sounds like fun, but I checked my calendar and a friend's daughter is getting married that weekend. We'll be going out of town to attend.
