Hello, Bill.

Yes, I'm interested in your critique of Peikoff's work. I was lent a copy of his book by a young "objectivist". I started reading it, but found so many instances of flawed thinking that I didn't finish the book. I'd like to see if you found the same flaws which I did.

And yes -- I think we should be extremely careful about copyright infringement. Peikoff sounds to me like the sort of person who would not ignore any chances of making money by means of lawsuits. Besides the ethical principles involved, of course.

Subject: [philosophy-240] Do you want a copy of this write-up?

In our last meeting of the Charlotte Philosophy Discussion Group, we discussed the question as to what to discuss next. Our discussions have been focussed around Objectivism. Although Objectivism has been that focus, the discussions have been wide-ranging, about many philosophical issues in general.

In the discussion last time, I mentioned that I had done an analysis of Peikoff?s summary of Objectivism, interspersing between its paragraphs my comments regarding the problems I have seen in that philosophy. Interest was expressed in reviewing my write-up.

However, since it includes Peikoff?s work, which is copyrighted, there is the ethical issue as to what would constitute improper use. We decided that as long as my write-up was given only to individuals for the sole purpose of discussion within our group, with the assurance that it would not be passed on and thus potentially made public, the objective of copyright law and fairness to the author would be maintained.

Therefore, if you would like a copy of the write-up emailed to you, and you are in agreement with this limited use, if you email me your request I will email the write-up to you.

Note that at the beginning of the write-up is this statement:

****
Please note that this write-up contains copyrighted material and is therefore to be used only by the recipient, who is receiving it at his or her request and with the understanding upon making that request that it is to be used only for the purpose of discussion within the Charlotte Philosophy Discussion Group. The copyrighted article is to be found at:

Also, if you have any ideas for future discussions, for instance on topics not involving Objectivism, please let me know.

Thanks!
