Morrow Mountain State Park (https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Morrow+Mountain+State+Park,+NC&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=56.724997,68.027344&ie=UTF8&hq=Morrow+Mountain+State+Park&hnear=Morrow+Mountain+State+Park,+Albemarle,+Stanly,+North+Carolina+28001&z=13) is located just past Albemarle. It's about an hour's drive from Charlotte. There are deer roaming the forests and the fall colors make for some great photography.
Also, the homeplace/estate of Dr. Kron is located in the park. He was the first doctor to to come to the area. His family resided there raising crops, exploring and studying the flora and fauna in the area. His family cemetery is located on the back side of the property along with graves of slaves. His home and the greenhouse still stands or has been reproduced. The best time to see the deer is around 4:00. There are also campgrounds galore, views of Baden Lake, and a river for canoeing.
The time and date is currently flexible, as time gets closer we'll see when the leaves would be prettiest. If we're lucky we'll find a cold snap that can give us the most color.
Transportation options will be meeting on-site or at BJ Vance's house in southeast Charlotte to caravan.
