The purpose of the Charter for Compassion is to redirect attention to the principle of the Golden Rule, which requires that we look into our own heart, discover what it is that gives us pain and then refuse, under any circumstance whatsoever, to inflict that pain upon anybody else. By doing so, the Charter can serve as a powerful reminder that compassion is an essential component of building a strong society, a healthy economy and sustainable world. Unless we learn to implement the Golden Rule globally, we will be unable to live together in a world that is interconnected ~ electronically, economically, politically and militarily ~ as never before.
