Machine learning with Python
Details
After a somewhat extended summer break I've finally have nailed down Simon from Ripjar to talk Data Science, Machine Learning and Python. It sounds fantastic, here's the blurb....
Machine learning is the study of algorithms capable of recognising patterns and learning general rules from data. The field is a very exciting one that has, and is currently, revolutionising many areas of technology such as computer vision, human language understanding and artificial intelligence. Python, is a fantastic programming language for experimenting with such algorithms and is used here to showcase some simple examples of line fitting (regression) and group identification (classification) as well as an example or two of artificial neural networks - an algorithm inspired by the structure of the human brain. This talk assumes no knowledge of machine learning or python - so, all are welcome!
Simon Smith is a data scientist at Ripjar, a data analytics startup focusing on extracting and presenting insights from a variety of data sources. Prior to this, Simon worked in a variety of research positions in cryptography, machine learning and visual analytics. Simon has a particular interest in natural language processing; enabling computers to understand human language.
