Join us at Chic Geek Hack Night!
NOTE: This event is open only to women*.
Welcome to Hack Night 2.0! In 2015 we're bringing you an exciting new format.
From 6:30 - 7:00 (ish) there will be a short mini talk by a woman in the tech/startup space in Calgary, followed by open discussion/hacking/coding time. Light snacks are provided.
Hack Nights are a way for you to meet other like-minded women, practice your public speaking skills (if you wish!), collaborate, and carve out time to work on your projects. Don’t worry about your skill level – this is a casual meetup and a safe space to explore. Bring your laptop and power cord, and get to work!
February's Topic: How to use Github (and other version control systems) : a guide for the totally baffled with Aurooba Ahmed (http://www.auroobaahmed.com/)
Github is a very common tool that teams of programmers use to collaborate. We'll cover the basics -- why you need it, how to get started, and what all of the jargon means.
Aurooba has been coding since she was 11 years old and now owns a web development company called Phoenix|D (http://phoenixd.co/). She loves stationary and eating delicious food! We'll definitely learn a lot from this talented and energetic woman.
*This event is called 'Women's Hack Night'; we use an inclusive definition of 'women', encouraging the participation of diverse identities traditionally under-represented in technology.
Shout out to our community partner, Startup Calgary (http://startupcalgary.ca/)!
