Welcome, Chicago Figure Drawing Artists!

Meet others who are interested in drawing or painting the figure. We'll try to host a variety of figure drawing sessions, including different venues, different times, and different types of modeling.

It seems to be difficult to get these groups started, despite a high number (over 250) that have expressed an interest. One of the problems is finding venues that are convenient to everyone. Another is agreeing on meeting days and times. My vision is having a variety of venues and days, and hopefully getting enough interest out of the whole group at each to make them viable.

There are costs to this type of group:

1.) Meetup.com charges a fee to maintain the group.
2.) Venues typically charge for space rental.
3.) Models usually cost money as well

Normally fees are only collected at the face-to-face meetings. I would like to have a small annual membership fee, which would cover the monthly Meetup.com charges. Any excess would be held to pay any shortfalls on space rentals and model fees.

Ideally, attendees would cover the specific costs of the drawing sessions. That can be risky, if attendance is lower than expected. So I think there should be a cap to what would be charged each night. This would help eliminate one reason for people not showing up.

Costs can be held down also, if we can find volunteers for models at least part of the time. (I would model for free).

If anyone has, or knows of, studios that we could use for free, that also would cut down the costs.

Actually, if we get enough volunteers for both models and venues, the only cost would be the minimal Meetup.com fees.

Anyway, the group is now "started", but not functional. I'll start a discussion on the group forum, so we can get functional as soon as possible.

For now, there will be no fees. We'll wait and see how many people are truly interested and see if we can get it going.

So, PLEASE, everyone who has listed this as an interest, join as soon as possible and let's start exploring what the possibilities are!
