Shamanism: Chicago’s most active Startup investor is also a Shaman

Alan Matthew is one of the most interesting (and accomplished) individual you will come across in Chicago and we are pumped to have him speak about Shamanism, "the original biohackers".

Thirty years ago, Alan started his career at $2/hr job at the Board of Trade. Fast forward to today, Alan is Chicago’s most active angel investor, an international entrepreneur (traveled over 80 countries), a published photographer in the New York times, an avid Burning Man participant and Shamanic healer for over 17 years.

It’s rare to see an accomplished trader/entrepreneur/investor from the western world venture to the other side and embrace Shamanism. Needless to say, this is going to be one of the most interesting talks yet!

Some of the things we will cover:

- Shamanism 101

- Actionable biohacks from Shamanic traditions

- Their philosophies and medicines

- Best practices and cover common misnomers

- Q & A

Because space is limited, there is a $5 cost to attend the event but that includes a delicious healthy dinner and wine ($10+ value).

Very informative for those interesting in working with plant medicines/spirits. I'm glad that there is an audience for this sort of consciousness-expanding material in the context of the start-up/business world. Great stuff!

I agree Johnny. Luckily there are tons of other currently legal options available for people to experiment with until this technology becomes more accessible. Or a swarm of South american mosquito's migrate to north america and start infecting people with DMT. Let's hook up with one of the biohacker biology labs and create a DMT retrovirus! Who's with me?

Most entrepreneurs are innovative and flexible enough to be open to new ways of improving themselves, and are ambitious enough to seek them out and try them! This is very much a self-selecting group.

First, sincere props to Janaid for setting this up. You never know what you're going to get until the speaker gets started.

For the speaker however...I'm not sure if getting high and doing nature photography count as 'biohacking.' In the brief periods of lucidity he had while he was speaking, he didn't seem to know anything about the chemistry of what was going on. On the other hand, at least he went into great detail about the side effects.

Whoever asked him the questions about the genetic mutations that affect metabolism of DMT, props to you too - it would have been much more interesting to hear your perspectives.

For those who remain true believers, you might be interested in the new hedge fund I'm launching. We'll be charging 3 and 20 instead of the usual 2 and 20 to cover the costs of travel to Peru, where all our best investment ideas come from. If you're interested in investing, have your spirits talk to my spirits and we'll set something up.

I second the props to Junaid, putting on events like that can be rough. @thomas I was the one who was talking about the genetic SNPs that might affect how DMT works. And Since my psychedelic experiences are limited, I've had to dive heavily into the biochemistry. Any time you want to talk more I would welcome it. It seems that you have the balanced the experience with the understanding.
