Let's discuss how to address distributed Hbase & Large object storage use cases

Details

Maryann from Intel is going to talk about their large object use case on HBase and how they have implemented an HBase Large Object storage for fast data access. She is also going to introduce Intel’s solution for scaling HBase tables across geographically distributed data centers.

Large Object Storage:
Use cases like storing ATM or teller transaction photos or traffic camera snapshots, generate an enormous amount of image data. However, HBase out of the box suffers from availability and performance issues when asked to store large image files. Maryann from Intel is going to describe their extensions and improvements to Apache HBase to make it suitable for management of large object (LOB) data that supports LOBs ranging in size from a few kilobytes to a few megabytes.

Cross-site Big Table:
As HBase continues to expand in areas of application and enterprise or government deployments, there is a growing demand for storing data across geographically distributed datacenters for improved availability and disaster recovery. Folks for Intel big data team have worked on extending Apache HBase to make it well-suited for cross-datacenter and cross-regional deployments, providing the capabilities of creating and accessing HBase tables that are partitioned and backed-up over a number of distributed datacenters.
