update: My name is Mike O'Brien. I took over this group last fall after getting a few emails that the previous organizer had quit and the group would fall apart if nobody stepped up. I love movies that are about interesting people - I loved the Maya Angelou movie and the Bob Dylan movie that played at Gene Siskel the past couple of months, and I also loved Off the Rails and Notes on Blindness at Facets more recently.

In general, I find myself gravitating towards Facets, Gene Siskel Film Center, and Landmark Century on Clark.

If you would like to organize/'host' a movie somewhere else, or a movie that I'm not into, feel free to message me!

(everything that follows is from the previous organizer)

Cost: You will be responsible for purchasing your own ticket, concessions at the theater, and any beverages/food purchased for after-movie drinks. Other than that, there are no additional fees to attend the meetup. I'd recommend you purchase your tickets at the box office rather than ahead of time, as while it's not expected, meetups may be cancelled for weather or personal reasons, and I may not be able to find a backup organizer in time.

Rules:

• Be respectful and courteous to other members of the group.

• Be respectful of the movie theater, rules, and employees.
• Indie film can contain controversial subject matter. While I encourage open discussion of film content, racist, sexist, or discriminatory remarks will not be tolerated.
Spoilers: There's been discussion in the past on how to handle movie spoilers if folks see different movies. I'm open to suggestions there, but for now, the policy will be that you are free to have an open discussion on the organizer chosen official movie for the month, but if discussing other movies, please keep discussions spoiler-free or quietly discuss with other members who have already seen the movies.

Suggesting additional events: I've gotten a few messages from folks asking to promote movies they are making or events they are hosting. If this is the case, you can send me a note about your movie/event, and I will review it and add it to the calendar as a note, or if you're a regular member of the group and would like to host, a meetup. Please send me at least the following information about your movie/event: title, location, date & time, cost, website, and if applicable, a link to a movie trailer. Please note, your event is not guaranteed to be posted based on my discretion.
